4S Jumla Nepal

Surya Social Service Society (4S/Jumla) is a non-profit organization established in 1994 in Chandannath Municipality, Jumla, Nepal. Guided by the motto “Practical Ways to Positive Change,” 4S works to empower rural communities to overcome poverty and achieve sustainable development. Its vision is to create capable rural communities that improve their socioeconomic status while managing natural resources responsibly. The mission is to build capacity, enabling people to identify and solve their own problems and improve their quality of life. 4S focuses on six thematic areas: community empowerment and governance, livelihood development, agriculture and food security, health and nutrition (including WASH), education and capacity building, and disaster risk reduction with climate resilience. Over the years, 4S has worked with 60,000+ community members, supporting walnut and apple value chains, microfinance initiatives, climate-smart agriculture, women’s empowerment, maternal and child health programs, and participatory planning. With a strong executive committee, skilled staff, and local partnerships, 4S ensures that change is community-driven and sustainable. Through collaboration with local governments, NGOs, and donors, the organization continues to transform lives, fostering self-reliance and dignity in Jumla and across Karnali.
