High Value Agriculture Inclusive Business Pilot (HVA-IB Pilot)

About the project

In collaboration with SNV Nepal, 4S/Jumla carried out the HVA-IB Pilot project from April 2009 to December 2011 in Chandannath Municipality and Patarasi Rural Municipality. The project aimed to promote high-value agriculture as a sustainable business opportunity for rural households. By focusing on vegetable seed production and organic apple farming, the initiative created new income streams for farmers. Cooperative development was at the heart of the project, helping producers organize, manage resources, and market their products collectively. The use of Participatory Market System Development (PMSD) ensured inclusiveness and ownership among stakeholders. The project successfully demonstrated that with the right support, rural farmers can transform traditional agriculture into profitable and sustainable businesses.
