Rural Access Programme 3 (Socio-economic Development)
About the project
Through Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, 4S/Jumla implemented the Rural Access Programme 3 in Hima Rural Municipality between December 2013 and December 2015. The initiative combined agricultural development with improved access to markets, enabling communities to increase their income sources. Activities included commercial vegetable farming, home gardening, fruit production, and livestock development, especially sheep and goats. Additionally, sustainable harvesting of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and seed production were promoted. By applying Participatory Market System Development (PMSD), the program helped farmers organize, produce competitively, and reach better markets. This project not only increased household incomes but also enhanced food security, gender inclusion, and environmental sustainability in rural Jumla.
